How is Gentamicin Sulfate Cream used?

This medication is manufactured as a sterile cream or ointment, which is intended for topical administration directly to the skin. Do not use it in the nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum.

What dose should be applied?

Apply only enough ointment to cover the afflicted area, 2-3 times per day. Always wash hands with soap and water before and after using this medication.

Only a small amount of this cream should be applied only to the affected area. The area sometimes can be covered with gauze if a doctor suggests it.

In cases of impetigo contagiosa, the crusts should be removed before application. This allows maximal contact between the antibiotic and the infection.

Cases of overdose with this product are not common. Accidental oral ingestion might lead to an overdose. If accidental ingestion occurs, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting may manifest, and these should be managed symptomatically. If you suspect an overdose of this product due to accidental ingestion, promptly inform your healthcare provider.

There is no data available about the dosing in geriatric, and pediatric patients. There is also no data available about dosing in patients with liver or renal impairments. Consult with a doctor to get personalized advice based on your current health condition.

Refer to a doctor or healthcare professional for the exact dosage and duration of treatment.
