What is Cefazolin?

Therapeutic Class:

Active Ingredients: Cefazolin

Cefazolin for Injection is an antibiotic drug most often used to treat bacterial infections of the skin. This medication is also indicated for the treatment of moderately severe bacterial infections of the lung, bones and joints, stomach, blood, heart valve, or urinary tract.

Cefazolin is often prescribed to help reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria. Because of this, it should only be used when an infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible microorganisms. This medication is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, which contains the most important medications needed for a basic health system.

Cefazolin is also known by the names of cephazolin or cefazoline. It is classified as a broad-spectrum first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefazolin is effective against infections caused by gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, particularly staphylococci and streptococci, though resistance to cefazolin has been seen in many species of bacteria.

This medication has been produced as a powder to be mixed with the water and then administered by injection.

Cefazolin for Injection is produced by AdvaCare Pharma, a pharmaceutical company specializing in global distribution.
